Several key features set the Hubitat Elevation smart home hub apart from others:
Unlike many hubs that rely heavily on cloud services for executing automations or controlling devices, Hubitat can perform these functions entirely locally. Benefits of this approach include faster response time, increased privacy, and greater reliability.
Hubitat offers support for most Z-Wave, Zigbee (Zigbee HA 1.2 or Zigbee 3.0), and Matter devices, along with a wide range of LAN and cloud devices, including brands such as GE/Jasco, Aeotec, Centralite, Hikvision, LIFX, Lutron, NanoLeaf, Philips Hue, Samsung, WiZ, Zooz, and more!
Hubitat offers a high degree of customization and flexibility in creating automations, including built-in apps for automations ranging from simple to complex, as well as the ability to create your own apps or drivers with custom code in the Groovy development environment
Hubitat does not require subscriptions for ongoing use of the hub, including local access to the hub and local or remote access to devices with the mobile app, Hubitat Dashboard, or compatible third-party services like Alexa or Google Home. (Optional subscription services enable extended warranty with the option of secure cloud backups or remote access to the hub’s administrative interface.)
Several key features set the Hubitat Elevation smart home hub apart from others:
A comprehensive automation tool for automating smart bulbs, dimmers, switches, outlets, blinds, and more, based on motion sensors, contact sensors, time, mode, button devices/remotes, and a variety of other options
Automate changing of thermostat setpoint based on time, mode, or day of the week; create an “EcoMode” offset based on presence.
Create arbitrarily complex custom automations (or use Basic Rule for simpler automations and easily convert to Rule Machine if you need more power).
Including Mode Manager (automate mode changes on your hub), Notifications (receive push notifications for or audio/TTS notifications based on device state changes), and others.
Hubitat offers several ways to interact with the hub:
With Hubitat Elevation, your data is stored locally — on the hub, not in the cloud. Not only does this help make your automations responsive, it also prioritizes security and privacy. Additionally:
Beyond built-in device support (drivers) and apps, Hubitat offers the ability to create your own — or install anything created by our amazing community of fellow users. Custom app and custom driver code can be uploaded to your hub.
If you can screw in the two antennas (provided with your hub) and connect the network and power cables, you can install your Hubitat Elevation hub! Scan the QR code included in the box or go to go.hubitat.com to get started with hub setup. You will be stepped through the entire process, from hub assembly to initial setup and even adding your first device and creating your first automation.
Hubitat releases regular platform updates to add new features, enhance the user experience, and ensure security. Release notes provided for each update communicate the specific changes so you can decide if or when you want to update. Unlike some other hubs, Hubitat Elevation lets you perform updates on your own schedule – never automatic or forced. Platform updates are easy to apply using the Settings page on the hub.
Hubitat offers a 90-day warranty for hubs purchased from hubitat.com or amazon.com for hardware problems (other resellers may also offer their own terms). Resources for learning how to use your hub include the documentation at https://docs2.hubitat.com and the Hubitat Community forum at https://community.hubitat.com, where you can interact with fellow users and staff to share ideas, troubleshoot problems, and learn more about your hub.
